Anti Piracy Compliance Program
Australian Replication Plants respect and support copyright. We insist on written documentation that proves we have the legal right to replicate your CD or DVD product. An Intellectual Property Rights Form and Right to Replicate form is required for all projects.
Standard manufacturing royalties are paid to the patent holders associated with the CD and DVD replication process. A CD or DVD can not be replicated legally without paying these royalties. The basic patent royalties are approx. $0.16AUD for a DVD-5, and $0.18AUD for a DVD-9. To avoid legal prosecution, fines, and crushing of your illegal discs you must confirm your Discs are manufactured by a fully licensed replication plant.
Examples of additional royalties include:
MPEG LA (when MPEG compression is used)
Dolby (Dolby sound)
Thompson Multimedia (MP3 compression)
Macrovision (Macrovision anticopy software)
DVD Copy Control Association (CSS encryption)
Your project may be subject to a number of different royalties, Disc royalty and Macrovision so you must be certain you are not
in breech of these agreements, be safe be sure only use an Australian Replication Plant and you will have peace of mind.
It is not worth the risk, just to save a few cents.
Remember when you get a quote which is a bit cheaper, if the plant is not paying the royalties then they're ripping you off - did you get a huge

discount or just a small percentage, so they didn't pay the royalty they
stole the fee and kept it - and you are now a co-conspirator.
CSS is an acronym for Content Scrambling System and is intended to prevent the copying of digital video files directly from a DVD disc. This encryption will prevent the uninformed user from copying a DVD on their computer. However like all encryption schemes, it is not infallible.
For projects that require CSS encryption, we only accept DLT tapes. However you can supply a DLT tape already CSS encrypted. Your project will incur additional mastering fees for CSS encryption.
The Macrovision Analogue Copy Protection System (ACP) prevents the
copying from a DVD to any analogue video source by making the pictures unstable. This is a very effective system when applied to VHS however
it does not prevent copying from DVD to a home computer. The licensing fee per disc is paid by contacting Macrovision and completing a usage agreement. A contract will be agreed to that allows you to produce a licensed number of discs.
